Disable Beep And Other Annoying Sounds

When you spend a lot of time infront of a computer, annoying beeps will irritate us. One of the most irritating beeps happens when you use the Volume control. But there are other beeps, such as on error dialogs or when you hit the wrong key. There are several ways to disable and enable the system beeps in windows.

Disable beeps using Device Manager:

Step 1 : Right-click My Computer and select Properties.
Step 2 : In System Properties dialog box, click the Hardware tab.
Step 3 : In Hardware tab, click the Device Manager button.

Step 4 : In Device Manager window, select View -> Show hidden devices menu.
Step 5 : Expand Non-Plug and Play Drivers.
Step 6 : Right-click on the Beep element, and select Properties.
Step 7 : In the Beep Properties dialog box, goto the Driver tab. And click the Stop button, and change the startup type to Disabled.

Step 8 : When beep is disabled, the device manager's icon will be crossed as follows.

Using Command Prompt

Step 1 : Open command prompt (Start -> Run ->Type cmd).
Step 2 : Type the following commands one by one exactly.

net stop beep
sc config beep start= disabled

(Note: A space required after the equal sign in the second command)

Using Control Panel

Step 1 : Open Sounds and Audio Devices control panel.
(Start - Settings - Control Panel - Sounds and Audio Devices).
Step 2 : In the Sounds and Audio Devices Properties dialog box, click the Sounds tab.
Step 3 : Select the No Sounds scheme (to reduce the number of retained sounds).

Step 5 : Scroll through all items in the Program Events list box and change the Sounds option for every event (including System Beep) to None.

Using Windows Registry:

IMPORTANT:
Steps involved with Windows Registry, might cause serious problems if you modify the registry incorrectly. Step 1 : Open Registry Editor. (Start > Run > Type regedit > Click OK)
Step 2 : Goto the following key.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Sound
Step 3 : Edit the key Beep and give it a value of No.
