Gmail Aliases - Virtual Email Address

Here I have a question for you.!

How many Gmail Addresses You Have…?

Most of us will answer one! Rest will answer 2-3 or little more. But in real, all Gmail users have infinite Gmail addresses even if they registered only one Gmail account. We can call them as a Virtual email(Gmail) address or aliases.

Dot [.] alias

Gmail just ignores dot[.] as a character in email address.
What i mean is

  > ihacc4u@gmail.com
  > ihacc.4u@gmail.com
  > ihacc.4.u@gmail.com
  > i.h.a.c.c.4.u@gmail.com

All the four email address are referred to the same address. In other words mail sent to any of the above will go to the same inbox.

Can't Believe..?
Just try to sign in with your username, but add or remove some dots in your username. You'll still able to reach your account..!

Plus [+] alias

Similar to the above (Dot), Gmail again ignores plus[+] as a character in email address. So the result is,

  > ihacc4u+main@gmail.com
  > ihacc4u+fun@gmail.com
  > ihacc4u+home@gmail.com
  > ihacc4u+office@gmail.com

All the four email address are referred to the same address.

googlemail.com alias

By default every address@gmail.com have a alias address@googlemail.com. So even if you send me mail to ihacc4u@@googlemail.com it will be delivered to my inbox. Googlemail.com is official domain for Gmail.com service

Need More…?

Yes, Still you can use all the above aliases in any possible combination. Here is the example of all three at once…

  > ihacc.4u+trick@googlemail.com

Will reach ihacc4u@gmail.com

Ok., Now you may probably think what to do with these Gmail Aliases…! If so, Wait for my next post. And don't forgot to add your comments.
